§ Mr. AllenTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what action his Department will consider arising from the Northwick Park hospital research on the cost-effectiveness of caring for the elderly in the community as opposed to in hospitals.
§ Mr. MellorIt is already Government policy that elderly people should be cared for in the community whenever this is possible and appropriate.
We are currently giving careful consideration to Sir Roy Griffiths' recommendations on the whole issue of care in the community, taking account of the independent review of residential care chaired by Lady Wagner, and of the numerous representations we have received.
