HC Deb 19 October 1988 vol 138 cc900-5W
Ms. Harman

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what was the ratio of places in residential homes for the elderly to the population aged 65 plus years in England and in each local authority in 1979 and the latest available year;

(2) what was the number of places in voluntary, local authority and private homes for the elderly in England for each of the last 10 years; and how these relate to the population aged 65 plus years and 75 plus years.

Mr. Mellor

Information available centrally prior to 1985 does not separately identify residential homes solely for elderly people. The information given in the tables relates to places in homes for elderly and younger physically handicapped people. Information collected on places does not identify provision for specific age groups.
