Friend recently announced, we are close to confirming with water authorities an accelerated programme of capital improvements—involving expenditure of about £1 billion over the next four years—to bring all those works currently in breach of their numerical consent conditions into full compliance by March 1992. We expect to make a more detailed statement on our proposals shortly.
