HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 cc762-3W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in the light of continued concern that Viraj Mendis is in danger of detention without trial, he will make it his policy not to deport him before full review of the evidence produced by Amnesty International and others.

Mr. Hurd

Mr. Mendis has lodged a petition for leave to appeal to the House of Lords. I have made it clear that I will accept the decision of the courts, and I expect him and his supporters to do the same.
