HC Deb 24 May 1988 vol 134 cc155-6W
39. Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what proportion of his Department's expenditure on procurement was spent in(a) England. (b) Scotland, (c) Wales and (d) Northern Ireland during the last year for which full figures are available.

Mr. Sainsbury

The Ministry's procurement expenditure in the United Kingdom on equipment in the financial year 1986–87 is estimated to have been distributed as follows:

Per cent.
England 92
Scotland 5
Wales 2
Northern Ireland 1

Note: The above estimates are based on the location of final suppliers to the Ministry of Defence. They do not take account of the different location of subcontractors or of suppliers to the main contractors.

84. Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on his Department's policy with regard to the regional distribution of procurement expenditure within the United Kingdom.

Mr. Sainsbury

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Moray (Mrs. Ewing) on 10 November 1987 at column158.
