70. Mr. Beith

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received concerning the ordering of type 23 frigates.

Mr. Sainsbury

Since tenders were invited for up to four type 23 frigates in October, meetings have been held with three groups of hon. Members, one of which included local trade union representatives, and to date we have received letters from 12 hon. Members and one letter from a regional council.

In addition, I have replied to 12 questions in this House and the matter was raised during the debate on the Royal Navy on 3 March, at column 1242.
