To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what advice or instructions have been issued to servicemen and their families living in his Department's accommodation in Scotland with regard to the completion of any inquiry form issued by registration officers in connection with the community charge in Scotland;

(2) what advice or instruction has been issued to servicemen and their families living in his Department's accommodation in Scotland with regard to (a) registration under the Abolition of Domestic Rates &c. (Scotland) Act 1987 and (b) payment of a community charge to the relevant local authority.

Service personnel and their families living in public accommodation in Scotland have been instructed to comply with the normal legal requirement to complete community charge registration inquiry forms and return them to registration officers, and advised of their liability to pay the community charge in the area of their sole or main residence.
