Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his policy with regard to dealing with individuals and bodies in Wales who wish to communicate with his Department through the medium of the Welsh language.

Written presentations to the Ministry of Defence in any language other than English are translated within the Department or sent to commercial agencies for translation if resources are not available.

It is normal practice to reply in English, the working language of the Department, irrespective of the language used by the original inquiry.
