§ Mr. Nigel GriffithsTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the cost of compiling the latest Welsh house condition survey; and what assessment he has made of its value to his Department.
§ Mr. Grist[holding answer 17 May 1988]: The 1986 Welsh house condition survey was the first undertaken at the district level and provides both the Department and district councils in Wales with a uniquely detailed picture of the Welsh housing stock, and with a large amount of social data about householders. The report identifies the considerable progress we have made in improving housing conditions in Wales and also highlights the areas with outstanding housing problems. It will assist us in determining priorities and financial allocations. The cost of the survey was £1.6 million. The value of the survey will be determined by the extent to which local authorities and others make use of the results.
