HC Deb 20 May 1988 vol 133 c609W
Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many houses in Wales are classified as unfit to live in.

Mr. Grist

[holding answer 16 May 1988]: The results of the Welsh house condition survey show that in 1986 the number of dwellings in Wales classified as unfit was 79,700. In 1981 there were 90,000 unfit dwellings.

Mr. Roy Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many houses in Wales lack(a) one or more basic amenity, (b) an inside toilet and (c) a fixed bath.

Mr. Grist

[holding answer 16 May 1988]: The results of the Welsh house condition survey show that in 1986 there were 47,600 dwellings in Wales lacking one or more basic amenity, 20,800 dwellings in Wales lacking a WC inside the dwelling, and 16,300 dwellings in Wales lacking a fixed bath or shower inside the dwelling. These figures show a significant improvement on the situation in 1981 when 83,600 lacked one or more basic amenity, 55,000 lacked a WC inside the dwelling, and 44,300 lacked a fixed bath in a bathroom.
