HC Deb 16 May 1988 vol 133 c323W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with the water quality in the Bristol channel, particularly as regards its effect upon fish stocks, swimming and beach pollution; if he has received any reports of injury or illness to fishermen as a result of water-borne pollution; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gummer

Fish stocks in the Bristol channel show no adverse effects caused by the quality of water. This is unsurprising as disposals of waste licensed by the Ministry are carefully controlled to protect fish and to avoid any pollution of beaches. I understand that the Ministry has received no reports from the area of injury or illness to fishermen as a result of water-borne pollution.
