HC Deb 16 May 1988 vol 133 cc322-3W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has as to how many calves have been born as a result of the use of bovine somatotropin; what controls he has over the future use of such animals; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

No calves have been born as a result of the use of bovine somatotropin.

Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many representations, and from whom, he has received concerning the use of bovine somatotropin; and if he will publish them.

Mr. Donald Thompson

I have received a considerable number of letters from individuals and organisations representing consumers, producers and distributors. It would not be appropriate to publish such individual representations.

Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many licences for the use of bovine somatotropin in the United Kingdom have been issued by him.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Three ATCs have been issued to permit trials in a maximum of 1,130 cows. No product licences have been issued.
