§ Mr. HunterTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the implications for United Kingdom policy towards relations with Zimbabwe of the reported merging of the Zanu and Zapu political movements in Zimbabwe.
§ Mr. MellorThis is an internal matter for Zimbabwe. We welcome the generally improved internal security situation which appears to have stemmed from it.
§ Mr. HunterTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the implications for United Kingdom policy on the maintenance of stability in southern Africa of Zimbabwe's policy towards its neighbouring countries and the African National Congress.
§ Mr. MellorWe wish to encourage stability in the region and to that end we attach importance to regional co-operation in southern Africa, as is demonstrated by our support for SADCC and the FLS. Our policy towards the African National Congress is well known.
