§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how he estimates that the availability of the community charge register to the general public will make the register more accurate; and whether he will list those organisations and individuals, other than individuals whose details appear in the register and the community charge officer, who are likely to be involved in maintaining the accuracy of information found on the register.
§ Mr. HowardThe general public will have a legitimate interest in the accuracy of the community charge register. We have therefore decided to ensure that an extract from the register will be available for public inspection. It is impossible to predict in detail what contacts there might be between registration officers and individuals or organisations.
