HC Deb 11 May 1988 vol 133 cc155-6W
93. Mr. Roger King

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what are the principal objectives of his Department's advertising and promotional activities.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The emphasis of DTI policies as set out in the White Paper "DTI—the department for Enterprise" is on transferring information particularly to small and medium sized companies. Advertising and related promotional activities are quick and efficient ways of achieving improved communications with business. We are particularly seeking to improve business managers' knowledge of the services available to companies under the enterprise initiative, the variety of ways in which companies can work with Government in regenerating inner cities, the need to prepare for the European single market in 1992 and the opportunities for trade and investment in Japan.

101. Mr. Bradley

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is his Department's planned spending on(a) television advertising and (b) press advertising in the current year.
