HC Deb 04 May 1988 vol 132 c468W
55. Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the Government of the Republic of Ireland about the implications for counter-terrorist policy of that country's trading links with Libya; and if he will make a statement.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

The Irish Government are fully alive to the threat posed to both our countries by Libya's active support for terrorism. We have discussed this with them on a number of occasions recently, particularly in the context of increased security co-operation following the seizure of MV Eksund last October which revealed extensive Libyan support for the Provisional IRA.
