To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will meet a representative of the Palestine Liberation Organisation to discuss recent events in the middle east; and if he will make a statement.

No. The Palestine Liberation Organisation is well aware why contact at this level remains difficult.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on his policy towards the response of the Israeli Government to the Palestinian uprising in the occupied territories.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make representations to the Israeli Government about the deaths and injuries inflicted by Israeli troops on Palestinians in the occupied territories; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

We regularly urge Israel to administer the occupied territories in accordance with international law and human rights standards. We particularly deplore the use of live ammunition, deportations and collective punishments, and other excessive measures of repression.
