HC Deb 22 March 1988 vol 130 c62W
Mr. Devlin

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many officials of his Department presently employed at the Billingham office in Stockton-on-Tees will be redeployed(a) within Cleveland and (b) in the northern region.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We are still considering the DTI's continued presence in Teesside although the bulk of the work at present carried out at the Billingham office will come to an end over the next few years. We will make every effort to redeploy officials presently employed in Billingham to other work or to other offices in the north-east, but I cannot at this stage guarantee redeployment to every official involved.

Mr. Devlin

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many officials will be employed at the new satellite office of his Department to be established in Middlesbrough under the enterprise initiative.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

One official will inaugurate this satellite office but the final staffing level remains to he decided in the light of its emerging role.
