HC Deb 22 March 1988 vol 130 cc91-2W
Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what information is available to Her Majesty's Customs and Excise regarding a cargo of arms which stopped over at Prestwick airport on a Great Southern Airways flight from France to the United States of America on 24 November 1987; whether all the necessary procedures for such a cargo were carried out; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lilley

[holding answer 17 March 1988]: I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the Great Southern Airways flight from France to the United States of America on 14 November 1987. (There was no such flight on 24 November).

The aircraft in question landed at Prestwick airport to refuel and stayed under Customs control while it was on the ground. The aircraft's cargo remained on board during the brief stopover and was therefore not subject to specific Customs formalities.
