To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many aircraft have been firmly ordered and how many options have been secured since his Department announced official support for the A330 and A340 aircraft; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Atkins

As at 15 March 1988, the total number of commitments for the Airbus A330–340 was 145 aircraft. As the programme is still in its early stages, figures broken down between the A330 and the A340, and between firm orders and options, are not available.

As at 15 March 1988, 294 firm orders and 189 options had been placed for the Airbus A320 aircraft.
