HC Deb 17 March 1988 vol 129 c670W
Mr. Tom Clarke

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the Government's policy in respect of simplified planning zones; how he intends to apply it to Monklands district; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The Government believe that simplified planning zones will help to ease the burden on business, provide a more secure climate in which businesses can plan ahead, assist in generating confidence in the areas designated and stimulate investment and development activity.

It is primarily for planning authorities to come forward with proposals for simplified planning zones and Monklands district council has been quick to respond, by identifying a site in Coatbridge for potential designation as a simplified planning zone.
