HC Deb 15 March 1988 vol 129 c524W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what environmental impact analysis has been made by his Department of a possible accident in the English channel involving the crash of an aircraft carrying plutonium to or from Sellafield; and what assessment has been made of any potential contamination of fishing grounds.

Mr. Gummer

[holding answer 14 March 1988]: I understand that evidence submitted by British Nuclear Fuels to the European demonstration reprocessing plant (EDRP) inquiry at Dounreay showed that in the event of an air crash in the sea there would be no release of radioactivity, and therefore the question of contamination of fishing grounds would not arise.
