HC Deb 14 March 1988 vol 129 c450W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will visit Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Clwyd, to meet the board of school governors, parents and staff to discuss the need for extra financial resources to enable school visits, related to the new General Certificate of Secondary Education examinations, to be undertaken; and if he will make a statement on progress in implementing the General Certificate of Secondary Education scheme.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

I have no plans to visit the school. The distribution of general certificate of secondary education funding to each secondary school is a matter for Clwyd local education authority to determine in the light of local circumstances.

Evidence from Her Majesty's inspectorate in an interim report on the general certificate of secondary education published on 8 March shows that encouraging progress is being made in introducing the examination in Wales.
