§ Mr. DouglasTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the provision he is making for research in materials science.
Mr. JacksonThe Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) is currently funding materials science research in a wide range of academic departments. Present total expenditure on grants, studentships and facilities is just over £30 million. The council will shortly be considering the results of a recently completed review of this support.
