HC Deb 04 March 1988 vol 128 c745W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the total amount of payments now made following the error in the calculation of the retail prices index.

Mr. Scott

Special payments should by now have been made to around 12 million people, some of whom will have received more than one payment. We estimate the amount disbursed to be about £98 million.

Notes:

1. Costs for hospitals in London teaching districts will include London weighting staff costs.

2. Costs are not adjusted for variations in case-mix between hospitals. Teaching hospitals will tend to attract a different case-mix from non-teaching hospitals so that direct comparison may be misleading.
