§ Mr. Allan RobertsTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the area of foreshore and intertidal land leased to wildfowling clubs; and if he will list in theOfficial Report the names of the clubs and the areas involved in each case.
§ Mr. Lawson[holding answer 5 February 1988]: The Crown Estate Commissioners do not lease Crown foreshore to wildfowling clubs. In some areas, with a total linear mileage of approximately 160 miles, they have granted leases of shooting rights to the trustees of 12 clubs affiliated to the British Association of Shooting and Conservation. These leases are subject to comprehensive management plans agreed with all interested parties such as the Nature Conservancy Council, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, local authorities and adjoining landowners. Under these leases some 35 miles of foreshore are shot over. It is not normal practice for the names of these organisations to be published.
