To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what extra funding his Department is planning to provide for school building maintenance over the next three years, in the light of the report "Local Authority Property: a Management Handbook and a Management Overview."

Mr. Dunn

The Government's expenditure plans already include provision for local authority spending on repairs and maintenance of school buildings to increase each year. The expenditure plans for 1988–89 provide for authorities to spend 40 per cent. more in cash on the repair and maintenance of schools than in 1985–86.
