Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will commission an assessment of the probability of long-term improvement occurring from the provision of specialised rehabilitation services immediately or soon after brain injury occurs; and if he will examine the cost effectiveness for the National Health Service and the social services departments combined of such provision.

We are aware of the issues raised by the right hon. Member. Officials are currently considering the way forward.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many brain injury rehabilitation units there are in(a) the National Health Service and (b) the private sector.
