HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 c409W
Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will introduce an independent right of review for disabled persons who are refused assistance by the Independent Living Fund.

Mr. Scott

The Independent Living Fund is an independent discretionary trust and it is for the trustees to decide how they will deal with cases which give rise to dissatisfaction. I know, however, that it is their intention to look at such cases very carefully.

Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans his Department has to enable the Independent Living Fund to assist with disabled persons' claims after the £5 million provided by the Government has run out.

Mr. Scott

I am confident that the sum of up to £5 million for the current year will be more than enough. We shall review the level of funding for future years in the light of experience.
