Mr. Chapman

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what additional funds he intends to allocate to the Countryside Commission in 1989–90 to ensure the effective implementation of its "Enjoying the Countryside" initiative; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

The Government's expenditure plans for 1989–90 make provision for an allocation of £19.535 million to support the Countryside Commission's programme, which includes the enjoying the countryside initiative. Any changes to these plans will be announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Autumn Statement.
