To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the Government's policy with regard to the genetic improvement of livestock; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The genetic improvement of livestock has been a major aim of research and development for many years and has led to significant improvements in performance and health. New techniques are now available and the Government would wish to see them employed, provided safety and the welfare of animals are not put at risk.
