HC Deb 09 June 1988 vol 134 cc681-2W
55. Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement concerning the effect so far of the implementation of sheepmeat stabilisers on premium prices.

Mr. MacGregor

The sheepmeat stabiliser came into operation on the 23 May. For the first week of its operation we would expect the variable slaughter premium to be 7.7p/kg less than it would otherwise have been.

63. Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he next intends meeting representatives of the Farmers Union of Wales to discuss the effect of the implementation of sheep stabilisers.

Mr. Donald Thompson

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales—who has responsibility for agriculture in Wales—maintains regular and close contacts with representatives of the Farmers Union of Wales on sheep matters. My right hon. Friend, the Minister and I also meet FUW representatives to discuss issues of mutual interest.
