§ Mr. LeeIn January 1988 the number of unfilled vacancies registered at jobcentres in the United Kingdom, seasonally adjusted and excluding community programme vacancies, was 249,500. The corresponding figure for January 1983 was 121,600. It is estimated that about one third of vacancies are notified to jobcentres.
