§ Mr. AmessTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the Government have any plans to seek to increase the penalties for litter-related offences; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggUnder the Litter Act 1983 a person convicted of leaving litter in an open place may be fined up to £400. We have no plans to increase this. The Government have, however, given their full support to the Tidy Britain Group, which has initiated a programme of experimental projects designed to examine ways of dealing with the problem of litter.
