Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what precise information was available to his Department in the period prior to the shooting of three Irish Republican Army members in Gibraltar on 6 March regarding the nature and scope of any alleged terrorist attack which they were suspected of preparing; what were the sources and timing of that information and what action was taken as a result; whether any civilian employees of Her Majesty's Government were involved at any stage in the operation to locate and apprehend the terrorists; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mellor

The hon. Member is clearly referring to intelligence matters on which it is not our practice to comment.
