HC Deb 28 July 1988 vol 138 cc402-5W
Mr. Amess

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations his Department has received about the introduction of student loans; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

The student support review group has received written evidence from 106 organisations and individuals, nine of which have also given oral evidence. In addition, since the beginning of 1987, the Department has received seven petitions, signed by a total of 1,300 people, and well over 1,500 letters.

Mr. Amess

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will place in the Library copies of the representations he has received concerning the introduction of student loans; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

Copies of written evidence received by the student support review group were placed in both Libraries of Parliament in April 1987. It would not be appropriate to do the same with all the correspondence—not usually intended for publication—addressed to my right hon. Friend and myself.

Mr. Amess
