HC Deb 28 July 1988 vol 138 c470W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland when he last discussed the state of medical clinical research in Scotland and its priorities with representatives in Scotland of(a) the British Medical Association, (b) the Medical Research Council, (c) the Medical Academic Staff Committee, (d) Scottish universities and (e) medical students and researchers.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 30 June 1988]: My right hon. and learned Friend has not met any of these groups to discuss that topic in particular, but the subject of university medical teaching and research was touched on in the course of a discussion he had with representatives of the British Medical Association on 6 June. I met representatives of the British Medical Association on 25 July. The Scottish Home and Health Deaprtment has also had discussions with the principals of Scottish universities with medical schools on the common interest between the universities and the Health Service, in which the research interest was mentioned, and regularly meets the Medical Research Council to discuss priorities for research.
