§ Mr. AllenTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make it his policy to use those statutory powers available to him to prosecute water authorities which do not comply with EEC directives.
§ Mr. MoynihanThe Government will use whatever means are necessary to ensure that European Community directives on water are complied with. As I said in reply to a question from the hon. Member on 11 July,Official Report, column 40 where the Government are aware that the obligations of directives are not currently being fully met, water authorities are instructed to take steps to remedy the position and, where necessary, to agree programmes with the Department.
