Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to the answer of 8 December 1987,Official Report, column 139–40, why the list of hospital closures included in deposited paper 3399 does not include Barrowmare hospital, Chester, Davenham hospital, Norwich; Princess Mary's hospital, Margate, Dover eye unit; Liverpool psychiatric day hospital, Pemberton day hospital, together with others listed in the answer to the hon. Member for Holborn and St. Pancras on 8 December 1986, Official Report, columns 49–64.

Mrs. Currie

The bulk of facilities listed in the answer of 8 December 1986 but not included in deposited paper 3399, were day or out-patient facilities with no loss of beds, including the Liverpool and Pemberton day units. Barrowmore hospital, Chester and Davenham hospital, Northwich were both omitted in error and Princess Mary's hospital, Margate and Dover eye unit were proposed changes of use, not closures and should be deleted from the 1986 list.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if, pursuant to the answer of 8 December 1987,Official Report, columns 139–40 relating to information on hospital closures deposited in the Library, he will give (a) the month in which St. Mary's, Newham in City and East London area health authority was approved for closure in 1981 and (b) the month in 1986 in which; (a) Brunswick house, North East Essex and (ii) Dagenham hospital, Redbridge were approved for closure.

Mrs. Currie

Information on hospital facilities involving the closure of beds approved for closure in 1987 is currently being collated and will be available shortly. I will inform the hon. Member when I am in a position to place a table in the Library as he has requested.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if, pursuant to the answer of 8 December 1987,Official Report, columns 139–40 relating to information on hospital closure deposited in the Library, he will give the address of the Garrett Anderson maternity home in Camden and Islington area health authority.

Mrs. Currie

The Garrett Anderson maternity home, which was approved for closure in September 1979, was situated at 40 Belsize Grove, London NW3 4TS.
