To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will place in the Library any map in his possession which shows(a) the maximum daily or hourly flow of vehicles on the major roads in Greater London and (b) the locations of current congestion and the periods over which it generally takes place.

No maps showing maximum flows are available. I refer the hon. Member to the Department's "Statistics Bulletin" (87)37, which shows average daily flows for trunk roads.

This publication also includes charts showing average speeds on the strategic network. More recent information on the central area is given in "Statistics Bulletin" (87)41. I also refer the hon. Member to the stage 1 reports of the four London assessment studies.

I am placing in the Library maps showing locations of congestion identified by the Metropolitan police in 1987 on an adjoining trunk road for morning, evening and inter-peak periods.
