HC Deb 26 July 1988 vol 138 cc157-8W
Mr. Michael

To ask the Attorney-General what consideration he has given to introducing to England and Wales, in whole or in part, the Scottish system of house sales; what consultations he has had on this possibility; and if he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

The advantages and disadvantages of using Scottish house purchase procedures in England and Wales were recently considered fully by the conveyancing standing committee at the Law Commission. Such procedures are available for use in England and Wales without the need for amending legislation. The committee has produced an explanatory guide for conveyancers and their clients showing how such procedures may be used.

Mr. Michael

To ask the Attorney-General what proposals he has to end the practice known as gazumping; and whether he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

I refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Mid-Staffordshire (Mr. Heddle) on 30 June, at column295.
