To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what representations he has received on the position of Gaelic within the core curriculum in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

[holding answer 21 July 1988]: A substantial number of the responses to the Government's consultative paper on education reform have referred to the position of Irish in the curriculum. No decisions on this or any other aspect of the reform proposals have yet been taken.
