§ Mr. HinchliffeTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the full gross annual cost to the National Health Service of administering the use of private beds and private facilities within the National Health Service for the latest available year.
§ Mrs. CurrieCharges for the use of private facilities within the National Health Service are calculated so as to recover the full gross cost of those facilities. In 1986–87, the latest year for which information is available, the full gross cost of providing private beds and facilities is reflected by the amount of total income for that year, which was £61 million. A list of the charges in force in 1986–87 is contained in circular HC(86)6, a copy of which is in the Library.
