To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what advice his Department gives to local managers whose ward sisters meet seven of the 11 criteria for a grading of 'I' but do not qualify for the grading because they manage one ward only.

The guidance which the Department has issued makes clear that posts must meet the grading definitions as a whole.
