To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to make proposals to amend the law allowing British citizens resident abroad to vote in general and European elections.

As my right hon. Friend said on 29 April, at columns285–86, in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Brigg and Cleethorpes (Mr. Brown), we intend to bring forward legislation to extend the eligibility of British citizens living overseas to register as electors in this country during this Parliament.
