To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to ensure that justice is dispensed swiftly to those charged with public order offences.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action his Department is taking to make sure that justice is dispensed swiftly to those charged with public order offences; and if he will make a statement.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to ensure that those accused of public order offences are brought before magistrates within three days.

Mr. John Patten

We are consulting the services working in the magistrates' courts in order to develop a framework for local arrangements to provide swift justice, and I hope to announce further details soon.
