§ Mr. WarrenTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many computer work stations there are in his Department; what is the ratio of work stations to civil servants; and how he expects this to change over the next five years.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThere are just over 4,000 work stations in the Department of Transport including terminals, microcomputers and word processors, giving a ratio of one work station to every 3.5 members of staff. It is not possible to give a figure for the overall increase planned over the next five years: this is dependent on the outcome of work currently in progress.
