92. Mr. Ted GarrettTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when the Government will announce a statutory code of practice on imported waste transit and disposal.
§ Mr. MoynihanThe transport, transfer and disposal of imported waste are subject to the same controls that apply to indigenous waste. The Government announced on 29 June a number of measures to strengthen these controls. A code of practice will contain guidance on the steps to be expected of waste producers and holders in transferring waste to another person so as to discharge a new statutory duty of care. Any person importing waste will be subject to the new duty. The code will be published when legislation is before Parliament.
