To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement on the level of brick deliveries in the first quarter of the current year.

Brick deliveries in the first quarter of 1988 totalled 1,141 million. Allowing for normal seasonal variations, deliveries in this period were 10 per cent. higher than in the fourth quarter of 1987 and 13 per cent. higher than in the corresponding period a year earlier. These increases reflect the continuing strong growth in building activity in the United Kingdom.
