HC Deb 20 July 1988 vol 137 c703W
Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in what circumstances and for what reasons staff at British posts overseas state the maximum duration of an intended visit when issuing a visa.

Mr. Mellor

Staff at posts overseas will, if asked, advise visa applicants that the duration of stay is at the discretion of the immigration officer at the port of arrival in this country but that visits are normally restricted to six months.
